5 Free Apps Every Student Needs

by | Parent Resources, Technology

As a student, you probably don’t have a lot of extra funds lying around, and even if you did, you probably wouldn’t want to spend it on more school resources. This is why we’ve compiled a list of our top 5 free apps that could come in handy for the next school year.

1. Gimp

Gimp is a full feature photo-editing software program that is comparable to Photoshop but designed for basic users. Gimp has similar functionality to Photoshop and offers many features that may be needed for school projects, unless of course you’re in a graphic or web design program.

2. ExceltoPDF.org

Need to make a quick change from an Excel document into a PDF? This handy website does all that by the ease and click of a button; no more re-formatting required.

3. Self Control

Do you often get tempted or distracted by …ahem… Facebook, or other social networking sites? Maybe you should try the web app Self Control. It lets you block your own access to anything online for a set period of time. Until that timer expires, you’ll be unable to access those sites.

4. Dictonary.com

Need a speedy reference to a word? Then the Dictionary.com app would be a great addition for you. Never feel lost in class again, just don’t let your instructor see you on your phone!

5. Examtime.com

Are you getting a little bit overwhelmed by the amount of flashcards that you have in your backpack? In September, why don’t you try this website instead? They have a free flashcard app that can be accessed anywhere with an Internet connection. You can also share your flashcards with your friends, although we’re not sure why you would…

With the new school year right around the corner, we want you to be prepared! Let us know what you think about these apps and if you already use any of them. Also, if you use any that are not on this list, please feel free to share them with us!
